We, August II

By the grace of God, King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Russia, Prussia, Muscovy, Samogitia, Kyovian, Volhynia, Podolia, Podlasie, Livonia, Smolensk, Severia, Czerniechovia, etc., as well as hereditary Duke of Saxony and Elector.

By this letter of confirmation, we make known to everyone in general and to everyone in particular who may be concerned, but personally to the noble Rogasener Starosten, the current one and his successors, that an extract from the Grod files of Deutsch-Krone has been brought before us, namely the copy of the privilege described below, for the honorable Christoph Kant, our mayor in Bukowiec; as is proper, confirmed by the seal of the aforementioned Grod (court) and signed with the own hand of the (local court) president Kola Swykowski, completely intact, clear and legible, and without any sign of suspicion, which word for word reads as follows:

Negotiated at the castle in Deutsch-Krone, on the Thursday before the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the year of our Lord 1722.

Christoph Kant, mayor of the royal village of Bukowiec, appeared in person before the local authorities and the present records of the district court and submitted to the present authorities for negotiation and entry into the local records a document on paper, described below, signed by the noble Johann Stephan and Stanislaus Zebrzydowski of Zebrzydowice, captains of Rogasen, personally signed (this document is) uncorrupted, undamaged, and unharmed, also free of any suspicious signs and, as can be seen from it, has the following content:

Jan Stefan Stanislaw, of Zebrzydowice and Wiecbork, Zebrzydowski-Sokokowski, Starost of Rogasen, Colonel of His Royal Majesty. I hereby announce to all and sundry, now and for all time to come, that I, who wish to bring the estates of My Rogasener Starostei, belonging to His Royal Majesty, to their highest prosperity, grant the Honorable Christoph Kant My consent to freely purchase the Schulzengut in Bukowiec, after the flight of Paul Aron, who has been appointed to this office. I grant the honorable Christoph Kant my consent to freely purchase the Schulzengut estate in Bukowiec, following the flight of Paul Arndt, which has caused the village of Bukowiec to fall into considerable ruin.

Because there are still heirs of the late Johann Grams, namely Johann Peter and, of the daughters, Kaethe, who are unable to maintain themselves on this Schulzengute estate and have already turned it into a desert, as they have also left the fields belonging to this Schulzengute estate overburdened with debt, which the community has nevertheless cultivated for sowing and sown with its own grain in order to collect both the taxes for the republic as well as other contributions for the army. Therefore, these successors sell the aforementioned Kant and his successors this Schulzengut in Bukowiec for the sum of two thousand tynf for all time, whereby they reserve no rights or claims to this Schulzengut for themselves or their successors. And since some of the children are not yet of age, their guardians shall take custody of their shares, i.e., Dywel, mayor of Tlukawy, and Jakob, mayor of Bukowiec.  However, the elder son of Johann Grams, who has already come of age and attained understanding, shall immediately take his share and that of his mother and assign to the purchaser the right of His Royal Majesty to the Schulze property. He shall bear the obligations of this Schulzengut in accordance with the rights of His Royal Majesty. He is obliged to manage the village as well as possible so that his subordinates are not offended.  He is also permitted to keep any livestock in accordance with the privilege granted by His Royal Majesty. Furthermore, the Kants and his followers are not obliged to leave this Schulzengut until they have been reimbursed the sum of two thousand Tynf and (their expenses) for repairs. They are also free to give, donate, sell, freely market, and change this Schulzengut to their best advantage, but with my permission or that of my successor.

I sign this authorization with my own hand for greater certainty and security and affix my seal thereto.

Done at Gosciejewo, on the 28th day of July in the year of our Lord 1714.
