The land records for Gembitzhauland (Gebiczyn) are held today at the Powiatowy Urzad Pracy w Czarnkowie office in Czarnkow. This office houses the books in which the land transactions from 1831 to 1947 are recorded. In the first records the original “holländer” in many instances records how they came into possesion of the property. Many of this records provide family links to the 1790s.
Currently, with some exceptions, I only have a copy of the first page of the record for each farm. At the archives in Poznan and Pila other records are available that help to establish later ownership and locations of the properties.
The Preibisch Survey

In 1826 a surveyor by the name of Preibisch was hired to survey the current ownership plots, forest areas, and common grazing meadows and created a map of the estate. The map below was used as the basis for the agreement to transfer the ownership of the plots of land to the 39 farmers.
Preibisch’s map has survived and is available to researchers at the archive in Poznan.

Rentenkataster 1855-1922

This set of records record the ownership of each property from October 1, 1855 until the beginning of World War 1. One of the limitations of these records is that while they record the transfer of the property there are no dates when that transfers took place.

Tax Records
Numerous tax records are available for researchers at the archives. For the analysis of the history of the farms of Gembitzhauland I will be primarily using these records.
Property Tax – Assessment and Allocation with the Gembitz Hauland District 1864-1865
Delegenheiten der Evangelischen Kirche
This set of records which are available at the archives in Poznan deals primarily with the financial support of the church of which the communities of Gembitzhauland, Polajewohauland, Niewiemko and Glasshütte were members.
For Gembitzhauland, except for a few properties added later, these records follow the original platmap of the community from 1826.
Building Registry for the Village of Gebiczyn – 1892 to 1943
The building registry lists the buildings located on each farm in Gembitzhauland on June 1, 1907 in addition to a building tax list dated October 6, 1908 which includes the names of the spouses. In addition, there are a limited set of pages recording the applications to build new buildings between the two wars.
Community Register 1921 – 1933

Following the recreation of the country of Poland following World War 1 a village register was created to record the residents of the village. Just as the older records have done this register follows the same pattern of recording the residents of the middle row first, then the far row followed at the end by the first row. Within this records birth dates, death dates and dates of immigration into and dates of emigration out of the community are recorded.
