Land Records
Anna Susanna, nee Scheffler, and her husband, Gottlieb Krüger, received Farm 10 from her father, Johann Scheffler following the death of her mother Anna Christina Scheffler, nee Erdmann. The property was acquired pursuant to the agreements of April 19 and June 27, 1831, and October 13, 1832, to settle the estate with her father and siblings for the sum of 670 thalers and a life estate. Per the land record Gottlieb Krüger was born February 13, 1809.
Johann Scheffler had acquired the Holländer estate pursuant to the settlement of May 6, 1800, with Christoph Erdmann and the guardian of the aforementioned Anna Catharina Erdmann, (I assume the name here is in error since it says aforementioned. That should be Anna Christina, but it could be a sister.) with the consent of the guardianship court.
The title of ownership for the 34 morgens was registered to the married couple Anna Susanna and Gottlieb Krüger by decree on February 4, 1833.
The Johann George Scheffler Family
No primary source materials are available about Johann George Scheffler prior to his marriage to Anna Christina Erdmann in approximately 1800. However, numerous documents mention Schefflers in Gembitzhauland in the early 1800s. Based upon that information it can be assumed that George was a member of a larger family that lived in the community for a generation.
George and Christina had at least three children: Anna Susanna, Anna Justine and Johann Gottlieb.
Anna Susanna Scheffler was born in 1803. She married Gottlieb Krüger between 1830 and 1832. They had at least four children, Christina Wilhelmina (1832-1909), Friedrich Wilhelm (1834-1921), Friedricke Henriette (1838-1881) and Karl Friedrich (1842-1922).
In 1854 the family emigrated with other Gembitzhauland families and young people to Honey Creek Township, Sauk County Wisconsin. On February 3, 1855, the couple’s oldest daughter married Gottlieb Krüger (1833-1873) in Honey Creek. The younger Gottlieb Krüger was the son of Gottfried and Christina Krüger the owners of Farm 19. Shortly after the wedding the Krüger family moved to Minnesota starting a new settlement of Gembitzhauland immigrants living in Zumbro Township Wabasha County and Farmington Township Olmsted County.
The senior Gottlieb Krüger died prior to 1865 when Susanna is recorded in the 1865 Minnesota census living with her daughter Henriette and son-in-law Wilhelm August Welke (1829-1913) in Zumbro Township. Susanna continues to live with the Welke family until her daughter dies on July 8, 1881. Shortly thereafter her daughter Christina Wilhelmina’s second husband Gottlieb Mielke moved to Lincoln County, Washington to homestead. The following year Susanna follows and files a homestead claim. She dies there on May 19, 1884.
Anna Justina Scheffler was born September 6, 1813. She was baptized on September 19, 1813. Two of her godparents were Michael Scheffler and his daughter Anna Christina Scheffler.
Michael Scheffler is listed in the baptism record for his son Johann Michael on May 12, 1805, as being a master tailor living in Gembitzhauland. He was married to Anna Catharina Stibbe. The baptism certificate was added to the church books for Brzeziny (evangelical Augsburg) in 1816. The family in 1816 lived in Borowa Poland which was part of the Russian controlled Congress of Poland after June 1815.
Justina married Gottlieb Reiter (1812-1881) prior to 1841. At the time of the baptism of their oldest son Christian Ferdinand (1841-1916) Gottlieb’s occupation is listed as a Erbeszinsmann in Zachasberg, Kreis Kolmar. An Erbeszinsmann is the owner of a hereditary leasehold property.
The couple had six children in Zachasberg, Kreis Kolmar between 1841 and 1857. In 1864 the family emigrated to Farmington Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota. Following the death of her husband on November 11, 1881, Justina moved to Lincoln County, Washington to be closer to her sister Susanna. She died there in 1891.
Johann Gottlieb Scheffler was born March 18, 1816. In 1846 he married Anna Justina Nickel (1820-1904) in Runau, Kreis Czarnikau. The couple had six children. On July 1, 1874, the family landed in New York on the SS Hermann from Bremen. The couple farmed near Pine Island, Minnesota where Gottlieb died on May 27, 1895.

Two years after the emigration of the Krüger family in 1854 the parish in Gembitzhauland was established. To support the new congregation the title to Farm 10 was transferred to the parish. The parish continued to own the property until sometime in the 1880s when Julius Strutzberg purchased Farm 10. Strutzberg became the owner of the neighboring Inn, labeled Farm 11A, between 1881 and 1882.
Property Tax 1863-1865
Pastor Wenig, who was living in Gembitz, was listed as the taxpayer for Farm 10. In the mortgage book the property is listed as church property owned by the community of Gembitzhauland.
Church Affairs and Parish Tax 1876- 1879
Since the community owned the property, no tax was collected for the farmland. However, there was still a house on this property which was likely rented to day laborers and trades people. In 1876 and 1879 Ludwig Fedder is listed as a resident at this location. Ludwig Fedder (1849-1888) was the son of Gottlieb and Dorothea nee Lüning Fedder the owner of Farm 8. In 1877 and 1878 the resident on this property was Ernestine Kriese. She was the former owner of Farm 19.

Julius Strutzberg is now listed as a farmer for this record.
Building Register June 1, 1907
Between 1890 and 1907 Farm 10 was divided into two cottager properties.
The first property is recorded in this record as house number 12A. It is owned by Gustav Baum. The farm consists of four buildings. A house, a horse-pig barn, a cattle barn, and another barn.
Prior to 1907 this property was owned by Albert Kelm and Gustav’s brother Hermann. Albert Kelm and his wife had two sons in Gembitzhauland in 1893 and 1894. Hermann Baum was a wheelwright and farmer. He and his wife Auguste had five children in Gembitzhauland between 1894 and 1901.
Gustav Baum married Bertha Pauline Zellmer, the daughter of August and Ernestine nee Wanke Zellmer January 21, 1891. Bertha Pauline was born on Farm 1.
The second property is recorded in this record as house number 12B. It is owned by August Hebbe, and consists of a house and a barn for cattle and pigs. Hebbe was born on July 21, 1868, in Wischinhauland. He married Emma Bertha Erdmann (born 1870) on February 11, 1893.
Community Register 1921 – 1933
When the community register is created after Gembitzhauland (now Gebiczyn) becomes part of Poland, former Farm 10 has families living in two separate house numbers 17 and 18.
Number 17. August and Emma Hebbe are living at this house with their two sons Willi and Hans.
Number 18. Gustav Baum and his wife Bertha are living at this house with their two daughters Elise and Frena. Later Frena marries Johann Lang (born 1895). In 1932 the couple moved back to Gebiczyn with their four children to live with Frena’s parents.
