Andreas Kurz, a Holländer (Haulander), and his wife, Anna Louise, nee Hoffmann.

In the proceeding of March 2, 1831, it was acknowledged that Andreas Kurz following the death of his father, Mathais Kurz, a Holländer, as stated in the death certificate dated November 10, 1808, and confirmed by the baptismal certificate dated April 25, 1816, acquired the Farm 7.  His wife, Anna Louise nee Hoffmann, acquired co-ownership of the farm consisting of 45 Morgen in accordance with the principles of general community property on the same date.

Mathias Kurz had acquired the same property more than 44 years prior to that according to the sworn testimony of Peter Siewert and Johann Schefler on March 3, 1831.

Kurtz Family

Records concerning Andreas and Anna Louise Kurtz prior to the birth of their son Peter in 1815 are unavailable.  However, a researcher in Germany has a World War 2 era ahnentafel in which it is recorded that Andreas Kurtz was born on November 25, 1787, in Gembitzhauland and died on September 18, 1856.  The record says that he and Anna Louise Hoffmann were married on May 11, 1809, in Gramsdorf.  This information is unable to be confirmed.

The only other information available for Mathais Kurz is that he had another son Michael who married the widow Anna Catharina Knoepke nee Kluck from Strozewohauland on September 24, 1822.  The record says that the 35-year-old Michael was the youngest son of the deceased resident of Gembitzhauland Mathais Kurz.  This would make his calculated birth year 1787, the same as what was recorded for his brother Andreas.

Mathais’ parents were likely Andreas and Dorothea nee Benglisch Kurz.  Andreas Kurz is a signer of the 1745 contract with Martin von Radomski.  The couple are recorded in Peter Von Gebrarts’s book “Das Untertanenbuch der Herrschaft Filehne (1742) “as moving to Gembitzhauland from Sorge, Kreis Filehne following the couple’s marriage in 1738.  Dorothea Benglisch (born 1718) was the first cousin of Maria Farr (born 1711) who was the wife of Christian Wanke also one of the signers of the 1745 contract with Martin von Radomski.  The Wankes moved to Gembitzhauland from Sorge after the birth of their second son Christian in 1735.

Rentenkataster 1855 – 1920

  1. Peter Kurtz (1815-1893)
  2. Friedrich August Kurtz (born 1851 died between 1897 & 1899)
  3. Wilhelmine Ernestine nee Gehlhar Kurtz Lüning (1859-1927) widow of August Kurtz

On October 1, 1855, Peter Kurtz is recorded as the owner of Farm 7.  Johann Peter Kurtz was born in Gembitzhauland to Andreas Kurtz and Anna Louise Hoffmann on July 15, 1815.  He married Louise Marten (1822-1890), the daughter of Daniel Marten Senior and Anna Catharina Wanke the owners of Farm 38.  The couple were married prior to the birth of their daughter Wilhelmine in 1841.  Peter Kurtz died September 27, 1893, in Gembitzhauland.

Friedrich August Kurtz was born in Gembitzhauland to Peter Kurtz and Louise Marten on August 30, 1851.  He married Wilhelmine Ernestine Gehlhar on September 29, 1880, in Gramsdorf.  In addition to owning Farm 7 in Gembitzhauland the couple also purchased Property 15 in Polajewohauland.  August died between September 4, 1897, the birth of his youngest daughter Elisabeth Frieda and April 15, 1899, when his widow married Rudolph Ludwig Lüning who was born in Wischinhauland on February 2, 1866.  August likely did not die in either Gembitzhauland or Polajewohauland as no death record has been found in either jurisdiction.

Wilhelmine Ernestine Gehlhar was born in Wischinhauland to Andreas Gehlhar and Wilhelmine Mielke on October 15, 1859.  She died on March 8, 1927, in Gebiczyn.

Community Register 1921 – 1933

When the community register is created after Gembitzhauland (now Gebiczyn) becomes part of Poland, Ludwig and Ernestine nee Gehlhar Lüning are living on the farm with Ernestine’s youngest daughter Elisabeth Kurtz (born 1897)

On December 30, 1924, Elisabeth Kurtz moved to Debe, (previously Dembe, Kreis Czarnikau).  Ernestine’s granddaughter, Ida Siewert moved from Polajewohauland to live with her aging grandparents on August 4, 1925.

Ernestine died on March 8, 1927.  Later that summer, Ernestine’s daughter Wanda nee Kurtz Siewert moved from Polajewohauland with her two sons Willi (born 1920) and Walter (born 1918) to join her stepfather and daughter Ida. This was recorded on August 21, 1927. Wanda’s children were the seventh generation of the Kurtz family to lived on this property.

Emma Wanda nee Kurtz Siewert was born in Gembitzhauland on February 7, 1888.  In 1910 Wanda married the widower, August Emil Siewert.  Emil Siewert was the owner of Farm 14 in Polajewohauland.  At that time Wanda’s mother Ernestine still owned Farm 15 in Polajewohauland.  Following the death of her mother, Wanda became the owner of Farm 15 Polajewohauland on December 29, 1929.
