The Prebisch Survey Map
On the survey map of 1826 numbers XIX and XX, are both owned by Martin Wanke.
Number XIX was the ½ farm reserved in 1735 by Nikolaus von Mielecki, the hereditary lord of Gembitz for the Krüg where he was entitled to personal beverage rights of beer and brandy from the community. In the original contract a full farm was reserved for the Krüg and the proprietor was allowed to keep up to 100 sheep. After Martin von Radom Radomski granted his new privilege to the community in the1744 contract, this property was reduced in size to a ½ farm with free rent for the proprietor. After the Recess Contract of 1831 Martin Wanke became the sole proprietor of the Krüg for which he now paid a rent. In the 1860’s this property became Farm 11A.
The farm at map number XX was the main Wanke farm that was connected to map number 19 and located east of the present church. Likely this farm was the home of the original Wanke settler Christian Wanke.
In the Recess Contract of 1831 between the two properties Martin Wanke was recorded as owning 51 Morgen. The property, which was now recorded together as Farm 11, was the largest in the community.
Land Records
Martin Wanke, a Holländer, and his wife, Anna Christina (née Hoffmann), born on August 11, 1810.
Martin Wanke following the death of his first wife, Maria Elisabeth Wanke (née Patschke), as stated in the court-approved will dated December 4, 1818, on November 12, 1825, acquired her co-ownership as her universal heir and along with it, his co-ownership of the estate of her first husband, Johann Wanke, upon her death, pursuant to the inheritance decree of March 22, 1825, and the settlement of the estate reached on September 8, 1826, with the deceased’s siblings and their settlement. However, his second wife acquired the co-ownership in accordance with the principles of general marital community of property, as acknowledged in the proceedings of May 3, 1831.
Johann Wanke acquired the aforementioned inheritance deed dated March 22, 1825, and September 8, 1826, in 1809 through an exchange of the holländer estate numbered XXXI with the widow of Christian Wanke, Anna Christina nee Scheffler, current married name Sawall, with the consent of her husband, Daniel Sawall, and Christian Wanke’s siblings.
Gramsdorf and Gembitzhauland Church Records 1813 – 1819
On April 11, 1817, Johann Wanke, a farmer and Innkeeper from Gembitzhauland, died there at the age of 56 years, 9 months, and 15 days. His calculated birth was June 28, 1760.
On Sunday, December 7, 1817, in Gramsdorf, the bachelor farmer Martin Wanke age 23 from Gembitz Hauland and the only living son of the late farmer Michael Wanke, 23 years old, married the widow Maria Elisabeth Wanke, née Paschokte, age 47 of Gembitz Hauland. She was the widow of the late Johann Wanke, a former innkeeper there.
Martin and Anna Christina nee Hoffmann Wanke
Martin Wanke, whose calculated birth year was 1794, was the son of Michael Wanke who is listed on the 1793-1794 census. His first wife Maria Elisabeth, based upon the land records, likely died in 1824 or 1825. He then married Anna Christina Hoffmann, the daughter of Gottlieb and Dorothea Elisabeth nee Wanke Hoffmann. Anna Christina was born August 11, 1810, on Farm 4 in Gembitzhauland.
The couple married prior to 1829 when their first son Gottlieb (1829-1892) was born. Subsequently the couple had three more sons and a daughter, Michael (1832-1909), Martin (1837-1880), Johann (born 1837) and Amelia (1840-1920).
Martin Wanke died prior to 1857 when is son Gottlieb was married. Anna Christina died March 13, 1870, in Gembitzhauland.
Their Children
- Gottlieb Wanke married Anna Elizabeth Matz, the second oldest daughter of Johann Gottlieb and Anna Elizabeth nee Redel Matz the owners of Farm 20, on November 26, 1857. After their marriage the couple moved from Farm 11 to Farm 20.
- Michael Wanke emigrated to Honey Creek, Wisconsin in 1854 with other residents of Gembitzhauland. On December 3, 1854, in Honey Creek he married Johanna Ernestine Krüger (1835-1923), the daughter of Michael and Anna Maria nee Hoffmann Krüger the owners of Farm 32. Subsequently the couple followed Michael’s step-uncles, Friedrich and Karl Hoffmann to Farmington Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota.
- Martin Wanke Jr, who was born January 20, 1837, married the widow of Daniel Marten Jr, Justine Mass, in approximately 1855. He then became the owner of Farm 37.
- Johann Wanke, who was born December 24, 1837, was a tailor and owned Properties 13 and 14 in Polajewohauland.
- Amelia Wanke followed her brother Michael to Farmington Township Olmsted County in 1865. The next year on April 18th she married Johann Meyer there.

Peter August Wendlandt was married to Anna Susanna Matthews (1819-1880). The couple moved to Gembitzhauland prior to the birth of their daughter Emilie Albertine Friedricke on April 1, 1857. Their oldest son Friedrich Wilhelm was born May 26, 1845, in Beyersdorf, Kreis Obornik.
Friedrich Wilhelm Wendlandt married Emilie Ottilie Rau (born 1856) on April 8, 1875 in Gramsdorf. Her parents were Johann Rau and Anna Caroline Priebe from Gramsdorf.
Johann Stibbe (1850-1883) married Ernestine Wilhelmine Lüning (born 1862) on September 4, 1881. Ernestine Wilhelmine was the daughter of Ludwig Lüning the owner of Farm 9. Johann Stibbe died September 9, 1883. His widow married Gustav Martin Kurz on April 7, 1884.
Gustav Martin Kurz was born on November 11, 1855 in Strozewohauland, Kreis Kolmar. The couple lived in Gembitzhauland until at least the birth of a stillborn child on March 2, 1887.
August Meissner (born 1842) and Auguste Matthews (born 1846) were married in Polajewo in 1868.
Emil Heinrich Müller, born May 28, 1865, in Strozewo, Kreis Kolmar, married Bertha Mathilde Wanke (1859-1901) on September 3, 1891. Bertha Mathilde was the oldest living daughter of Gottlieb and Anna Elizabeth nee Matz Wanke the previous owners of Farm 11. After the death of Mathilde Müller on May 2, 1901, Emil Müller married Emma Martha Reinke (born 1883) on November 16, 1901. The couple had two children in Gembitzhauland, the last being Hedwig Emma on September 19, 1903.
Christoph Hermann Pokrandt was born March 10, 1866, to Christoph (1827-1906) and Anna Rosina nee Kant Pokrandt in Gembitzhauland. He first married Auguste Mathilde Just (1865-1894) on January 30, 1891. His second wife was Alwine Pauline Konig who he married in 1901. The couple lived in Gembitzhauland until at least 1907 when their daughter Ella Else died. After the death of Alwine Pauline he married Anna Amalie Kappesser on September 27, 1930. At that time, he was a farmer living in Ralz, Kreis Landsbber an der Warthe. He divorced his third wife on March 23, 1934. Hermann died December 24, 1939, in Berlin.
Hugo Beutler was a businessman from Czarnikau who owned the property and the Gasthaus. He was born February 6, 1881, in Czarnikau to Lesser and Marie nee Kaspari Beutler. He died in 1942 in a concentration camp.
Property Tax 1863-1865
The taxpayer for Farm 11 is August Wendland who is listed as a ½ farmer. His son Friedrich Wendland is listed as being the other ½ farmer. There is a note on the record after Friedrich Wilhelm’s entry that says the title is not yet settled.
Church Affairs and Parish Tax 1876- 1879
Friedrich Wilhelm Wendland is the owner of Farm 11 in 1876 and 1877. For 1876 he paid a Klassenteuer of 18 Marks. This tax is the second largest in the community, only Gottlieb Wanke at 24 Marks owed more. In 1877 the tax was reduced to 12 Marks. For 1878 and 1879 the tax for Farm 11 is split between Michael Krüger as a farmer and August Wendlandt as a pensioner.

Building Register June 1, 1907
Farm 11 is owned by August Gehrke, and consists of a house and a combination horse, cattle and pig barn, another barn, and a combination pig barn and wagon shed. Gehrke was born on August 17, 1868, on Farm 28 to Peter and Ernestine Gehrke. He married Ottilie Emma Abraham (born 1867) in 1895.
Also on Farm 11, Hermann Pockrandt (1866-1939) owns a barn.
Community Register 1921 – 1933
When the community register is created after Gembitzhauland (now Gebiczyn) becomes part of Poland, former Farm 11 is house number 20.
Augustand Emma Gehrke and their daughter Olga (born August 7, 1901) are living on this property in 1922.
On January 1, 1926, Friedrich Knebel (born November 14, 1877) moves to this property with his wife Anna nee Fedder and their ten children. Anna Pauline Fedder was born in Gembitzhauland on January 12, 1879, to Michael and Johanne Louise Fenskie Fedder. Michael Fedder was the son of Gottlieb and Anna Dorothea Fedder, the former owners of Farm 8.
